From the humble beginning of only 27 teams participating in the first festival back in 1989, the Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival has evolved to a much bigger operation over the past two decades. Organized by the Toronto Chinese Business Association in collaboration with GWN Dragon Boat, the Festival will once again welcome teams to Center Island, Toronto Islands.

The Event

The 38th Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival is set to deliver two exciting, fun-filled days of competition, sportsmanship, and cultural celebration at Toronto Centre Island on June 13 & 14, 2026.

From its modest start in 1989 with just 27 teams, the festival has grown into one of the largest outdoor events in Toronto, attracting thousands of participants and visitors over the past three decades. Organized by the Toronto Chinese Business Association (TCBA) and the Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival (TIDBRF), the 2026 event is expected to welcome 100 to 125 teams.

With the buzz surrounding the upcoming FIFA World Cup and an influx of international visitors to Toronto, we anticipate an even greater number of global teams joining the festivities, continuing a proud tradition of international participation. Today, the festival draws over 50,000 visitors, 200 volunteers, and more than 3,000 athletes to Toronto Centre Island for two unforgettable days. This is a truly inclusive event open to everyone and free to attend bringing together community, culture, and camaraderie in one vibrant celebration.
